On July 10, 1925, the Scopes “Monkey” Trial, with John Scopes accused of teaching scientific evolution in school, began in Tennessee.
On July 11, 1960, Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird was published.
On July 14, 1881, Sheriff Pat Garrett killed William Bonney “Billy the Kid”, in Fort Sumner, New Mexico.
On July 15, 1997, fashion designer Gianni Versace was shot and killed outside his Miami Beach home by serial killer Andrew Cunanan.
On July 16, 1935, the world’s first parking meter was installed in Oklahoma City.
