West Palm Beach criminal defense attorney Kelly V. Landers recalls events of significance that occurred this week in history:
On October 16, 1962, U.S. President John F. Kennedy was informed that spy photographs revealed the construction of nuclear missile bases in Cuba, starting the Cuban Missile Crisis.
On October 17, 1931, American Gangster Al Capone, known as “Scarface” and “Public Enemy #1,” was convicted of income tax evasion.
On October 19, 1982, John DeLorean was arrested on drug trafficking and money laundering charges; a federal jury later found he was entrapped and was acquitted on all charges.
On October 20, 1973, the “Saturday Night Massacre”-President Richard Nixon ordered Attorney General Elliot Richardson to fire Watergate prosecutor Archibald Cox; Richardson and DAG William Ruckelshaus resigned instead.
