This Week in History – First Televised Presidential Debate

CBS (Columbia Broadcasting System) motion picture of the first presidential debate between Senator John F. Kennedy and Vice President Richard M. Nixon from CBS studios, Chicago, Illinois.

West Palm Beach criminal defense attorney Kelly V. Landers recalls events of significance that occurred this week in history:

On September 25, 1957, soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division enforced integration at Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas, allowing nine black students to enter the school.

On September 26, 1960, U.S. Presidential candidates John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon faced off in the first televised presidential debate.

On September 27, 1964, the Warren Commission released its report, concluding that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone assassinating U.S. President John F. Kennedy.

On October 1, 1971, Walt Disney World, near Orlando, Florida, first opened.
