This Week in History – Alice Ramsey Is First Woman to Drive Across U.S.

This week in 1909, 22-year-old Alice Ramsey made history as the first woman to drive across the United States. The car itself was a dark-green, four-cylinder, 30-horsepower 1909 Maxwell DA, a touring car with two bench seats and a removable pantasote roof. On June 6, 1944 D-Day:  The Allied invasion of Europe began with the landings at Normandy in France.

On June 9, 1909, Alice Ramsey embarked on her journey to become the first woman to drive across the United States in a car.

On June 10, 1692, Bridget Bishop, the first victim of the Salem Witch Trials, was hung for witchcraft.

On June 11, 2001, the U.S. executed terrorist Timothy McVeigh for the 1995 bombing of the Oklahoma City federal building.
