On December 23, 2001 Richard Reid attempted to blow up an airliner flying to Miami using explosives in his shoes, cementing his fame as the “shoe bomber.”
On December 23, 1948 Former Japanese Prime Minister Tojo Hideki was executed in Tokyo for war crimes. As Prime Minister, he was directly responsible for the attack on Pearl Harbor, which initiated war between Japan and the United States.
