On July 27, 1996, A bomb exploded in Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta, Georgia, during the 1996 Summer Olympics, killing two and injuring many more. Security Guard Richard Jewell was falsely accused and ultimately exonerated in an example of trial by media.
On July 30, 1965, U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Social Security Act of 1965, establishing Medicare and Medicaid.
On July 30, 1975, Former Teamsters leader Jimmy Hoffa disappeared near Detroit. His body has never been found.
On August 2, 1990, American frontiersman Wild Bill Hickock was shot in the back by Jack McCall while playing poker in Deadwood, South Dakota.
