On December 15, 1791 The Bill of Rights, the first 10 Amendments to the U.S.Constitution was ratified.

On December 16, 1773 Boston Tea Party:  Members of the Sons of Liberty, thinly disguised as Indians, dump 45 tons of tea into the Boston Harbor in an anti-British protest.

On December 16, 1969 Capital punishment for murder is permanently abolished in Great Britain.

On December 17, 1777 France recognized the United States as independent from England.

On December 19, 1776 Thomas Paine published The American Crisis.

On December 19, 1998 The U.S. House of Representatives impeached President Bill Clinton on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice.  (He was later acquitted.)

On December 20, 1860 South Carolina became the first state to secede from the Union.
