West Palm Beach criminal defense attorney Kelly V. Landers recalls events of significance that occurred this week in history.

On July 13, 1977, a massive power failure blacked out New York City for 25 hours.

On July 14, 1881, Sheriff Pat Garrett killed William Bonney, “Billy the Kid”, in Fort Sumner, New Mexico.

On July 15, 1997, fashion designer Gianni Versace was shot and killed outside his South Beach home in Miami by serial killer Andrew Cunanan.

On July 16, 1935, the world’s first parking meter was installed in Oklahoma City.

On July 16, 1969, Apollo 11 launched on the first manned mission to the Moon.

On July 18, 1969, Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy drove his car off a bridge on Chappaquiddick Island.  His passenger, Mary Jo Kopechne died in the accident.

On July 19, 1848, the first Women’s Rights Convention convened in Seneca Falls, New York.
