On December 7, 1787 Delaware was the first state to ratify the U.S. Constitution.

On December 7, 1941 Japan launched a surprise attack on the US Naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, bringing the US into World War II.

On December 8, 1980 Former Beatle, John Lennon was shot and killed outside his New York apartment by Mark David Chapman.

On December 9, 2008 Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich was arrested on corruption charges, including allegedly attempting to sell a  US Senate seat to the highest bidder.

On December 12, 2000 the US Supreme Court halted the Florida Ballot recount, effectively declaring George W. Bush the winner of the 2000 presidential election.

On December 13, 2003 Former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein was found hiding in a hole in ad-Dwar, Iraq, near his home town of Tikrit and captured by US forces.
