On December 9, 2008, Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich was arrested on corruption charges, including allegedly attempting to sell a U.S. Senate seat to the highest bidder.
On December 12, 2000, the U.S. Supreme Court halts the Florida ballot recount, effectively declaring George W. Bush the winner of the 2000 presidential election.
