On May 25, 1961 U.S. President John F. Kennedy announced the goal to land a man on the moon by the end of the decade.
On May 27, 1937 the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California was opened for the first time.
On May 29, 1953 Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay reached the top of Mount Everest, the first to do so.
