Martin Luther King, Jr.

This Week in History – Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have A Dream” Speech

In his speech MLK Jr. spoke about how even after 100 years of the Emancipation Proclamation (Lincoln’s declaration giving the remaining slaves their freedom) passed, we still didn’t have equality in America.

West Palm Beach criminal defense attorney Kelly V. Landers recalls events of significance that occurred this week in history:

On August 28, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King made his “I have a dream” speech at the Civil Rights March on Washington, D.C.

On August 30, 1963, the “Red Phone,” the hotline between the White House and the Kremlin, first went into operation.

On September 2, 1944, future U.S. President George H.W. Bush was shot down piloting a bombing mission in the Bonin Islands.

On September 2, 1945, Japan formally signed its unconstitutional surrender, ending World War II.

Have a great week!
