On October 24, 2005 – Rosa Parks, civil rights activist, died at 92.
On October 27, 1787 – the first issue of the Federalist Papers was anonymously published in New York newspapers.
On October 28, 1919 – over presidential veto, Congress passed the Volstead Act, and the prohibition era began.
On October 29, 1929 – Black Tuesday stock market crash.
