On March 30, 1981, U.S. President Ronald Reagan was shot and wounded by John Hinckley, Jr.  He was later found not guilty by reason of insanity and has remained under institutional psychiatric care since then, though with progressively longer visits to the home of his parents.

On April 3, 1882, American outlaw Jesse James was killed by his friend Robert Ford, who was convicted of the murder but pardoned by the Governor.

On April 4, 1968, civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee.
