On August 17, 1790, the U.S. Capital moved to Philadelphia from New York City.
On August 18, 1920, the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified, guaranteeing women the right to vote.
On August 23, 1927, Anarchists Sacco and Vanzetti were executed for robbery and murders they almost certainly did not commit.
