On October 7, 2001 the United States began air strikes on Taliban and al-Qaeda targets in Afghanistan, beginning “Operation Enduring Freedom.”

On October 9, 1967 Marxist revolutionary Ernesto “Che” Guevara was executed in Bolivia.

On October 10, 1973 Spiro Agnew resigned as Vice President after entering a “no contest” plea and paying $160,000.00 for criminal tax evasion.

On October 11, 1968 Apollo 7, the first manned mission in the Apollo space program, launches on an Earth-orbital mission.
