West Palm Beach Police to Use Body Cameras
Kelly Landers / 0 Comments /A recent article in The Palm Beach Post details the West Palm Beach Police Department’s future use of body cameras to record interaction with the public. Body cameras are expected to be used by police officers as early as March 2015.
It is this attorney’s opinion that until we have full-time body cameras recording of all interaction, including interrogation and questioning of suspects, the rights of those that are accused of crimes will continue to be disregarded.
Too often, I have had clients describe promises made by the police or offers of leniency in exchange for cooperation, only to have those promises disregarded. The use of cameras is a precaution that law-enforcement officers can use to protect themselves from the accusation of excessive force – while also protecting the citizens that they serve.
