The Amendment prohibits federal and state governments from denying a citizen the right to vote based on that citizen’s “race, color, or previous condition of servitude.” Women were not granted the right to vote until the Nineteenth Amendment was ratified in 1920.
On February 3, 1913, the 16th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, allowing the income tax, was ratified.
On February 4, 1789, George Washington was elected our 1st President.
On February 4, 1997, a civil jury finds O.J. Simpson liable for the deaths of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman.
