Please contact your state legislate tour in support of House Bill 139. This bill was introduced by representative Jose Rodriguez of Miami. It would require a unanimous jury vote to recommend death. Florida is the only state in the union in which a jury can recommend death by a vote of 7-5. We require a unanimous verdict of the jury to convict someone of a misdemeanor carrying a maximum punishment when you’re in jail, yet we only require a 7-5 vote to recommend a death sentence. This is shocking. Regardless of whether you are for or against the death penalty, this is a simple issue of due process.
