On January 3, 1973, a group of investors led by George Steinbrenner bought the New York Yankees for $10,000,000.00.

On January 5, 1989, the Virginia Governor pardoned David Vasquez, the first DNA exoneration in the U.S.

On January 6, 1994, figure skater Nancy Kerrigan was attacked by a man with a crowbar.  The assault was revealed to have been arranged by rival Tonya Harding.

On January 7, 1789, the first U.S. presidential election was held.

On January 9, 2007,  Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveiled the iPhone.
